About RuleVault
RuleVault is a board game rules companion app. It helps you set up games correctly, understand rules during play, and ask rules questions — all from your phone.
RuleVault is operated by Dennis Essenburg, based in the Netherlands. By using the app or this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use RuleVault.
Your account
You need an account to use RuleVault. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Let us know immediately if you suspect unauthorised access at [email protected].
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
Free and premium tiers
RuleVault operates on a freemium model:
- Free tier — full access to setup checklists, turn guides, scoring references, and all structured game content. Up to 10 AI rules questions per calendar month.
- Premium — unlimited AI rules questions, at €5.99/month or €39.99/year. Subscriptions are billed in advance and renew automatically unless cancelled.
You can cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — no partial refunds are issued for unused time unless required by law.
How we use rulebook content
RuleVault generates structured game guides by processing official rulebooks published by board game publishers. Here is how that works:
- We do not host or redistribute rulebooks. Rulebooks are processed privately on our systems to extract structured, transformed content. We do not store raw PDF files and users cannot download rulebooks through RuleVault.
- Content is transformative. What RuleVault stores and shows you is a structured interpretation of the rules — step-by-step guides, setup checklists, and Q&A — not a copy of the original rulebook text.
- We always provide attribution. Every game guide includes a reference to the page and section the content came from, and a direct link to the official rulebook so you can read the source yourself.
- Publisher rights. All game rules, names, artwork, and related content are the intellectual property of their respective publishers. RuleVault does not claim ownership over any of this content.
If you are a publisher and would like content about your game removed or updated, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 5 business days.
AI rules questions
RuleVault's AI rules Q&A is powered by Anthropic's Claude, accessed through our backend. A few important things to know:
- AI answers are generated based on processed rulebook content and may occasionally be incomplete or incorrect. Always verify critical rules questions against the official rulebook.
- AI answers are not a substitute for the official rulebook or publisher rulings.
- Your question is sent to our server and to Anthropic's API. See our Privacy Policy for details on how this data is handled.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use RuleVault to systematically scrape or extract content at scale.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, bypass, or abuse the free-tier question limit.
- Use the AI Q&A for anything other than rules-related questions about board games.
- Share account credentials with others.
- Use RuleVault in any way that violates applicable law.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep RuleVault available but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may update, add, or remove features at any time. We will give reasonable notice before removing features that paying subscribers rely on.
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of RuleVault after an update constitutes acceptance of the new terms. We will email subscribers about material changes.
Limitation of liability
RuleVault is provided as-is. To the maximum extent permitted by Dutch law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to incorrect rules answers or service interruptions.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from use of RuleVault is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes that cannot be resolved informally will be submitted to the competent courts in the Netherlands.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under applicable consumer protection laws in your country of residence.
